Do It Yourself, Easter Candy

Easter is right around the corner. And for some of us, we still have not been out shopping for our little ones.

You have to get the basket, the Easter Grass, the filled eggs for egg hunts, not to mention the candy to go with it.

After adding all that up, it can get expensive. Especially if you have more than one child to buy for.

Or maybe you just didn't have time to go shopping because of work or other things kept you from it.

I am sharing with you today a hack that will save you time and money.

Make your own Easter candy.

It is easier than it sounds and comes out great. The kids will love it.

All You Need Is Basic Ingredients

These Chocolate treats are made with basic ingredients and they take no time at all to prepare.

No need to be in the kitchen for hours prepping and baking when this is a no-bake delicious treat.

Another great benefit of this recipe is it will save you money.

No need to spend a lot of money at the store on already made Chocolates when you can make them in your own kitchen.

Be Creative

I have seen decorative candies and Chocolates growing up that are so detailed.

These treats have to be so hard to make right? Wrong.

All you need is a paintbrush, melted chocolate, and a mold.

The white chocolate for this recipe is perfect for tinting with food coloring and making your own colored Chocolates.

All you need is a little coating on the bottom of each mold to give it some color and decoration.

Fill The Mold

When it comes to baking, I have learned a lot about which things work the best.

I have had my fair share of mistakes, but that just comes with the territory.

I have used lots of different chocolate products for baking and I have to tell you one specific item I cannot live without.

Bakers Chocolate! It has become my number one melting chocolate of choice and is perfect for this recipe.

Just melt the chocolate, add a little sugar to make it sweet because this specific chocolate is unsweetened, and then fill your molds after you have painted them.

Easy as 1-2-3!

Let Them Set And Viola!

This recipe is really one of the easiest baking projects I have ever done.

You just need a paintbrush and any mold of your choice.

Any fine paintbrush would do.

Once you paint your decor on the molds, simply pour in the melted chocolate to the rim and then set them in the refrigerator or freezer to harden the chocolate.

That is it! Once they are set, remove them carefully from the mold and you have a homemade Chocolate treat.

Homemade Is Best

There are two great things about making your very own Chocolate treats.

It makes Easter more special because you made your kids Easter treats.

It is more personal.

Another great thing about making your own Easter candy is you don't have to worry about your kids getting any extra unwanted ingredients.

This will turn into a tradition for you and your family.

It can also turn into a creative project for your kids to give to their friends or make for themselves.

Ingredients

Any Easter Mold you choose
Sugar to taste for Bakers Chocolate or use a sugar substitute
2 (4 oz) boxes of Bakers Unsweetened Chocolate
1 (8 oz) bag of white melting chips (already is sweetened)
1 small paintbrush
Food coloring

Instructions

1. Divide your white melting chips into four individual bowls. I used only 4 colors for these candies so that is why I used 4 bowls.

2. Begin melting your white chocolate chips one bowl at a time. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Microwave an additional 10 seconds and again until it is melted, stirring between each interval. After the first bowl is melted add 4 drops of food coloring and stir well to make the color you desire. Once you have the color you like, using your small paintbrush, begin painting with that specific color to add decoration and detail to your molds. For example, if you are using blue coloring, then you can paint the eyes on the Easter bunnies or paint the ribbons blue. You do not need to add a lot of color, just enough to give it some tint. Once you are satisfied with using that color in all your molds, place the mold in the refrigerator for a couple minutes to set the icing. While you are waiting for the icing to set, rinse your paintbrush and dry with a paper towel or napkin. Melt your next bowl of white chocolate chips and begin the next color. Repeat this step until you are done adding all your detail to the molds.

3. Melt your Bakers Chocolate the same way you did the White chocolate, 30 seconds and then 10-second intervals until it is completely melted, stirring between each interval but this time add some sugar to your melted Bakers Chocolate because it is unsweetened. Without adding sugar to Bakers Chocolate it is very bitter. Just add enough sugar and give a little taste if it needs more than add a touch more, and keep testing it until the flavor is right for you. After the chocolate is melted and sweetened, using a small spoon, add your melted chocolate to each mold that you painted. Fill them to the top. Smooth out the top.

4. Refrigerate for 15 minutes, or until chocolate is completely set.

5. Gently remove the chocolates from the molds. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

Tips: If you want to add just white paint to a mold for coloring, then do not tint one bowl of your white chocolates. Use the white melted chocolate to add tint to eyes or eggs, and then tint the white chocolate after to add color.

Another great tip is that you can make these ahead of time. Just refrigerate them until you are ready to serve them or put them in your children's Easter baskets.
